Useful tips:

• A local phone or SIM card you should be able to get in any airport for free or real cheap. You can also get a SIM card online before you travel.

• Pick a prepaid plan with free incoming calls and free or cheap local calls. They will more than likely have the high international rates but that should not matter because you will be calling a local Stanacard access number

• If you are travelling to one of Stanacard′s Countries make all your international calls from your new local phone. It will be so much cheaper than calling from your regular phone.

Say, you are travelling to Brazil and want to receive all calls coming to your regular New York mobile for StanaCard’s low rate to Brazil. Here is what you need to do:

Step 1: As soon as you land, get a local Brazilian mobile phone (55 11 5555-2929) or SIM card with a prepaid plan and free incoming calls.

Step 2: Go to your Stanacard account and assign a New York Smartdial number (917 555-1234) to your new Brazilian number (55 11 5555-2929).

Step 3: Now on your Verizon phone press *729175551234 (*72 plus your newly created Smartdial) and press send.

You can now switch off your New York phone. Don’t worry, you won’t miss any calls. You will be receiving them on your Brazilian mobile phone. No one has to know you are abroad.

Step 4: Now, you pay zero roaming charges to your New York telecom. To us, well, you pay our super-low per minute rate for US-Brazil calls and – as always - absolutely no hidden charges or connection fees. Your friends back home will continue to dial your regular mobile number but it will automatically get sent to your international mobile while you′re away. No one has to know you are abroad.

Step 5: If you want to call back home from your Brazilian number, call directly using our local Brazilian Smartdial numbers. This way you′ll avoid the huge charges the Brazilian telecom would otherwise charge you.
